2015–The Year of the Wood Sheep

The Chinese New Year is quickly approaching. The Solar Year begins on February 4h and February 19th marks the beginning of Lunar New Year—the Year of the Wood Sheep.

Concentrate on finishing incomplete projects between now and the Solar New Year on February 4th. Then apply the tips below before the 19th to assure yourself a lucky and prosperous start to the Year of the Wood Sheep.

You will notice a shift as we leave the fiery independent spirit of the Horse and move into to the compassionate and mellow energy of the sheep. However, don’t think that the relative softness of the sheep implies weakness. Although the Wood Sheep relishes comfort, it can always take care of itself, if a confrontation should arise.

The energy this year will be more stable and move more slowly—a relief for many of us! Like the sheep, which is happiest when it is part of a stable community, we will flourish this year when our activities revolve around a compatible group in a familiar setting.

The Wood Sheep  (also known as the Ram, Lamb and Goat and by the color green) is influenced by both the Wood and the Earth elements. This can create conflict for some folks, especially if either Earth or Wood are personally out of balance. (An Earth imbalance can show up as issues with food or clutter for example and a Wood imbalance might appear as impatience.)

On a planetary level, earth imbalances can influence earth movements like earthquakes or problems related to wood like forest fires.

Be involved in creative activities whenever possible this year. Splash around with watercolors, pull out your old crayon box, dance, sing, and engage in the performing arts as an actor or spectator. Attend performances and take in museums and gallery shows whenever possible. It doesn’t matter what you do, just play and enrich your life with whatever appeals to you. And, whenever possible, do it with friends.

10 Tips to Prepare for the Year of the Wood Sheep

  • Clean your home. Pay special attention to your kitchen (see last month’s article for suggestions.)
  • Welcome good luck and opportunity by cleaning and decorating the area around your front door.
  • Donate anything you no longer want to charity before the 19th.
  • Connect with abundance by donating food that you no longer want to a food pantry or soup kitchen and replenish your own pantry with foods that you will use.
  • Replace light bulbs that aren’t working–both inside and outside.
  • Clean mirrors, windows, and glass surfaces. This will help to bring more clarity into your life.
  • Pay your current bills. If you have outstanding bills, be in communication and make arrangements to begin some kind of flow toward paying them
  • Energize your home with new plants and fresh flowers.
  • Plan a special New Year’s dinner with a variety of dishes.to celebrate the flow of abundance into your life during the coming year.
  • Plan to look your best on New Year’s day. Sparkle and wear your favorite clothing.
  • Finally, This isn’t Feng Shui, but I personally like to set a theme in alignment with the animal energy for the new year. My theme this year is building community and enjoying more group activities.

Enjoy the connection and well-being that comes with being part of the herd this year.

Fortunate blessings!
