The Center of Your Home

Late Fall Greetings Everyone!

The Center of your home relates physically to your heart and other internal organs. It’s also the area Feng Shui experts go to when there are undiagnosed physical conditions. Since it’s the Earth element, it’s also associated with weight gain and health issues related to sugar metabolism.

Another important characteristic of this area is that it relates to Present Time and your ability to live in the Now. We live in a culture where we are over-booked. We rush, try to fit too much into our day. and for many of us multitasking is a way of life. All of this can take us out of the Present as we plan for future moments.

Enhancing the Center of your home can help bring healing to any issues related to the Center. It can also bring you into present time, ground you, and bring more healing and balance into your life.  If you are habitually rushed, chronically out-of-control, or your well-being is challenged in any way, please check the Center of your home.

Although the Center is technically not a part of the Bagua, it’s extremely important. Energy flows out from the Center in all directions and influences the energy of the other eight areas of the Bagua. When there are problems here, you may have challenges that you would normally associate with another area.

Pay attention to how this area looks and feels. Are there stairs, a hallway, bathroom, fireplace, stove, furnace, or utility room located here? Is it a magnet for clutter? With any of these, it’s likely that a Feng Shui adjustment is needed.

It’s likely that whatever is here is either physically or energetically reflected in the rest of your home and affects a part of your life. A home with issues in the Center is an immediate tipoff to me that one or more of the occupants may be suffering a well-being issue in either the physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual realm.
COMMON ADJUSTMENTS

  • Use golden yellow or other earth-tone colors such as brown, tan or orange, if they work with your décor.
  • Display artwork that shows earthy low-to-the-ground landscapes, square or rectangular shapes, or anything representing health and vitality.
  • Heavy and/or comfortable furniture can help to ground this area, if it fits your space.
  • Pottery or other items created from the earth element.
  • It’s also appropriate to add anything here that reminds you to stay centered and grounded.

If the Center is in a transition area, such as a hallway, you may move through it quickly and, even if it is attractive, you may not be conscious of how energy is flowing here.

If you have a fireplace or stove here, make sure that the Fire element is balanced with other elements.

Since bathrooms located in the Center represent an energy drain that saps vitality, the best adjustment here is to mirror its four interior walls. Since most of us can’t or won’t do this, alternatively place a mirror on the outside of the door and make sure the door is closed at all times.

If you have health issues, place a Tai Chi (yin/yang) symbol or another representation of balance in this area.

A kitchen, family room, or living room located in the Center is usually auspicious. However, it’s important that all of the elements are in balance.

Finally, when your home’s Center is in balance, your life will revolve around a solid base.

May balance &  harmony fill your life!
