HEALTH & THE FIVE ELEMENTS
Feng Shui Notes - March 2006

Changes in health, such as a new problem or worsening symptoms of a preexisting condition, after moving into a new home or beginning to work in a different building are a tip off that something may be amiss with the Feng Shui.

In past newsletters we’ve talked about health as it relates to various areas of the Bagua.* It is also important to consider is the Five Element balance of a space.

The Five Elements are wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Each element relates to a body organ along with certain health conditions that are associated with that element.

If you are working with a public space, it’s best to make sure that all of the elements are represented and in balance. However, if you are working with a more personal space, such as your home or a small office, it’s important to consider the individual qualities and health issues of the occupants, and make adjustments based on each person’s needs.

A few of the common health concerns related the elements are:
• Problems with the liver, headaches, or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, may indicate that the Wood element is out of balance.

• Frequent fevers, laryngitis, or heart disease can be connected to an imbalance of Fire.

• When Earth is out of balance, you may be bothered with stomach or digestive problems, issues with the female organs, or an eating disorder.

• Water element imbalances can lead to kidney issues, dental problems, or trouble with the bones.

• Difficulties with the lungs, breathing, asthma, airborne allergies, or problems with the throat are often associated with an imbalance of the Metal element.

An obvious way to correct an elemental problem is to either add or subtract the element itself or to use something that symbolizes the element. For example, if the water element is low or missing, you could add actual water in the form of a fountain. You could also add a statue of a water animal or the color black to represent water. To reduce the amount of water in an area, you could remove any item related to the water element.

In future newsletters, we will cover the use of the creative, reducing, and destructive cycles as a way of balancing the elements.

If you are interested in going into more depth on the connection between Feng Shui and health, we will be going into more detail in the one day Feng Shui & Health workshop offered on April 15th. See class information below.

Healthy blessings!
