Feng Shui & the Two New Years

It seems like an oxymoron that even though the Sun’s light has begun to return since the Winter Solstice, we are continuing to drop into the depths of Winter and deep into the Water element–which is dominant this time of year.

Water is the element relating to the Career area of the Bagua. It gives us the signal to go within, contemplate, meditate and look deeply at life. The Career area has to do with your life path—in addition to the path of your career and everything else happening in your life now.

This is a perfect time to ask yourself what new seeds you want to plant or expand upon, what changes you wish to make, and what do you wish to release this new year? (Not as a new year’s resolution, but as a declaration of the direction of how you wish your life to go.)

I love this time of year! To me, having new years twice in a short time is an opportunity for two new beginnings. Fengshuiwise, the time between New Year’s day on January 1st and the Chinese New Year in February is the perfect time for clearing your head, connecting with your true essence while releasing both physical and mental clutter. This will help you to create space to uncover your deepest desires and put your life in order before the naughty little fire monkey swings in during the Chinese Lunar New Year on February 8thand adds a bit of chaos to the mix.

Chaos is actually part of the magic of creation. In order for you to move ahead and experience a quantum leap in your life, you will probably need to release some of the old structures in your life. Then trust this energy to create space for you to move ahead with momentum. Be patient! There’s a saying that both clarity and creation come out of chaos.

To clarify your path, add Water, or something symbolic of Water, to your main Career area with the intention of helping you to move inward and stimulate your imagination to help you to clarify your next steps.

Astrologically, Mercury will begin retrograding early on January 5t and continue until January 25th. Retrograding Mercury is helpful when your intention is to look inward. It can help you to slow down and repair your past mistakes whenever necessary. Don’t fight it. This time will help you move forward in the long run.

Trust whatever intuitive feelings you have now. Then, by the time Fire Monkey makes his grand entrance, you’ll have a plan and be ready to step into action.

Wishing that 2016 is your best year ever!
