Late spring, according to the I Ching roots, which Feng Shui is based on, is an excellent time to pay attention to the principal of gentle flow related to the Wealth area. To benefit from this energy, now is an excellent time to be receptive to gifts from unexpected sources and freely release anything that is no longer “you.” These actions will help you to begin new projects and move forward in a positive direction.
This month’s newsletter is dedicated to answering some of the questions that were sent in this past month.

Question: Can Feng Shui help me sleep?

Answer: There are many features in the bedroom that can contribute to sleeplessness. The most important rule about bedrooms is that they should only contain items related to rest, romance, and relaxation.

Items such as exercise equipment, computers, and TVs should be taken out of the room or, at the very least, covered. All of these items cause the brain to produce active beta brain waves, which are not conducive to restful sleep. Your brain will also produce them when the space is cluttered or otherwise unbalanced.

High electromagnetic levels (EMFs) can also over-stimulate the brain. Remove or unplug electrical items that are near your bed.

Another problem could be one or more mirrors in your bedroom—especially if they cut across your body. Mirrors cause energy to bounce around and can create a chaotic state. Try covering them for a few weeks to see if there’s a change. If so, you may want to remove them.

By decorating your bedroom with soft, restful colors, reducing EMF levels, and eliminating offending mirrors and all unnecessary items from your room, your brain will be encouraged to slow down and produce the alpha and theta brainwaves that precede a deep restful sleep.

Some non-Feng Shui remedies for a good night’s sleep include eliminating all light from your room and avoiding heavy food and alcohol in the late evening.

Question: I believe that my home has pretty good Feng Shui, but my neighborhood leaves a lot to be desired. My neighbor’s yard is especially bad. Does this affect us?

Answer: YES! Your surrounding environment in many cases is as important as your own home. Most Feng Shui consultants pay attention to the condition of the neighborhood as they drive to an appointment.
A possible cure for a messy neighbor is to place a Bagua mirror outside and over your front door. This will help to keep negative energy from entering your home. Another remedy is to place a convex mirror on the side of your house facing your neighbor’s home. This will help to deflect the negative energy caused by their trash. A third remedy is to hang leaded crystals or glass in any windows facing the offending property. The lead blocks the energy coming toward your home.
Please note: The May 18th session of the Feng Shui In Depth Series (The Garden, Landscaping, & Other External Factors) covers other neighborhood issues. For class info, call Suzanne at (719) 260-7207.

Question: Recycling is messy and takes up a large amount of space in my garage. How can I store my recycling and at the same time have good Feng Shui.

Answer: Great question! Both recycling and how we handle our trash are huge Feng Shui issues.

First of all, recycling is something that we do for the greater good of all humankind. As our consciousness evolves, we realize that we aren’t here just for ourselves and that we owe something to future generations. I believe that caring and responsibility for the planet trump Feng Shui in this case. (I know, you didn’t expect me to say that!)

With that in mind, you’re allowed to have a little “clutter.” Of course, there are strings attached! Keep in mind that every part of your property is part of the Bagua and you are affected by the life situations represented by that area.

Assess your personal issues and goals. Then pick a space to store your recycling in your garage or yard that represents an area of life where you already feel powerful and have minimal challenges.

Make sure that you have enough appropriate containers and that they stack neatly. Never let your recycling overflow into the surrounding space. Keep the area as clean as possible and dispose of it regularly.

Next month’s newsletter will focus on the Fire element.

Stay in the flow and enjoy your spring blessings!
