BAGUA AREAS ~ Career

Feng Shui Notes - September 2005

CAREER – Create A Positive Path To Your Future
Standing at your front door facing into your home or office, Career will be in the center third of the wall at the front of your building. For more detail on the Bagua, go to the newsletter article archives at www.FengShuiConsultingServices.net. The articles from December 2004 to present refer to the Bagua. BAGUA BASICS – Part One in particular discusses how to how to lay out the Bagua.

The Career area represents more than just your job! You may be surprised to find that the Career area relates to your journey through life, your path to self-actualization, whether or not you successfully actualize your life purpose, AND your entire past.

It’s not that the job aspect of the Career area is not important. Each of us is on a journey to self-discovery whether we are conscious of it or not. Those menial jobs that most of us have taken along the way to support ourselves are merely steps to finding our real life’s work. It’s true that some people discover their purpose early in life, but most of us try on different roles before we arrive at our true calling. Many folks ignore their purpose once they find it because they believe it’s too risky, that it might be unacceptable to others whose opinions they value, or that they won’t be able to make a living doing what they really love. They tell themselves that they will get back to their dreams later, but often those dreams are lost. This is where another aspect of the Career area comes into play--listening!

The ear is the part of the body related to the Career area. The symbolism of the ear in Feng Shui refers not only to the physical ear, but also to listening—both to yourself and to others. This relays a strong message that we need to slow down, really listen and understand what others are saying We also need to listen to our own thoughts and feelings, thus allowing us to view our life from a big picture perspective.

We all listen in different ways. For some people, listening produces a certain “knowing” or intuitive sense within. Others glean synchronistic messages triggered by outer, seemingly unrelated, sources--such as a chance reading of a newspaper article or overhearing a conversation. Some people are inspired by the spoken words of others. And still others hear thoughts inside their head.

The trigram (from the I Ching) related to this area of the Bagua is both active and passive. This implies that we must proactively take actions toward achieving our life path and at the same time be passive enough to go inward and receive wisdom and teachings from deeper levels.

If you find yourself confused about your purpose in life, if you are in a quandary about what you should do next, if you don’t know how to be still and listen, or if you have a physical problem with your ears or hearing, you might try the following enhancements:

* Add Water to the Career area. This is the element related to Career and can be used to improve conditions in your current job, to activate and bring more consciousness to your entire career path, to magnify the prosperity of your business, and to improve your listening on all levels. A common way of bringing more water into this area is to add a fountain or fish tank.

Another way of adding water is to bring in artwork depicting the type of water energy you desire in your life. If you want or need things to move fast, place a picture of a rapidly moving waterfall or a river with the water flowing inward toward the rest of your living space from the Career area. If you’re seeking wisdom, you might instead choose a still reflective pond. A balanced life will ultimately need both aspects of water, but possibly at different times.

Pictures of roads and pathways, also symbolic of water, are also appropriate.

* If you have one or more clear goals in mind, you can place a treasure map, a picture, or another positive representation of what you are trying to make happen in your life and in your work in the Career area.

* Color is another powerful way to enhance the Career area. The main colors in the Career area are black and indigo. The greatest possible stillness and peace is represented by black and indigo is a close second. Both are colors of deep still water, contemplation, and reflection and can help you tap into ageless wisdom, clarify what you should do next, and improve other conditions related to Career.

Dynamic, or moving, water is represented by medium to dark shades of blue. Its addition is useful when you need to gear up for more activity or displace stagnant energy.

Since the dark blue and black would normally only be used as accent colors, lighter blue or aqua are good color choices for decor in this area.

May you clear your past & create an abundant joyful path into your future,
Suzanne
