BAGUA AREAS
~ Relationships
Feng Shui Notes -
June 2005
For the past
few months we have been exploring life situations related to the Bagua.
(Go to Archives to read other articles in this series or to learn how
to determine the areas of the Bagua in your home or office.
Relationship, Romance, & Your Bedroom Although we will focus on romantic
relationships this month, keep in mind that this area also refers to other
relationships such as business partnerships and special friendships.
Relationship is the most yin, or receptive, part of the Bagua. Therefore,
the I Ching assigns the Earth element to this area. The positive qualities
of Earth are open, receptive, and yielding while at the same time it is
stable with firm boundaries without being rigid. A harmonious and balanced
relationship usually exhibits these same qualities.
Women especially may feel unsettled and challenged by intimate relationships
when part or all of this area is missing. This can be remedied by either
symbolically completing the space outdoors through landscaping, placement
of decorative items, or other transcendental cures or by using a mirror
on the inside to “push” the wall into a more favorable position.
Your bedroom is ideally placed in the Relationship area, but
whether it’s here or in another area, the bedroom always relates
to your romantic interests and is treated as if it is part of Relationship.
Enhance
the Relationship area and your bedroom with pictures of you and your significant
other. Choose current ones that express and reveal the love you feel for
each other.
If you’re seeking a new relationship, use pictures or other representations
of loving couples or pairs of items such as two animals that mate for
life, two flowers, or a pair of candles. Color is one of the most powerful
enhancements in Feng Shui and can be used as an accent or as the main
color theme of an area. Pink--ranging anywhere from a soft pink blush
to a dazzling neon pink—is the primary color for Relationship. Red
and white are secondary colors. It’s ideal to have all three colors
here, but go easy on the red if your relationship is too fiery or you
tend to anger easily and keep in mind that an excess of white may signify
too much purity in an intimate relationship. Since each relationship is
unique, the balance of color needed will be different for each couple.
Make sure that the artwork placed on your walls is straight and balanced.
Otherwise, you may find the equilibrium of your relationship compromised.
Avoid artwork and other objects that portray loneliness or being single.
Replace them with objects representing couples, togetherness, and the
natural abundance of the earth. Choose luxurious, soft, and sensual fabrics
for drapery and bedding
To create or expand romance, reserve the bedroom for relaxation, sleep,
and intimacy. If possible, remove or at least screen off everything else.
A TV or computer in the bedroom suggests that the focus of the relationship
is toward external things and events rather than the partner. A computer
used for work can be a constant subtle reminder of what needs to be done
the next day. Exercise equipment keeps your fitness goals active and in
view, but it defeats the primary purpose of the bedroom.
If your bed is facing the bathroom, keep the door closed. If one partner
is looking directly into the bathroom and the other is looking into the
bedroom, place something dramatic on the wall next to the bathroom doorway
to draw both partners’ eyes to a common focal point.
If you are single and desire a mate, make space in the closet and empty
a drawer for Prince or Princess Charming. Also, have matching bed stands
and try to have adequate space to move around on both sides of the bed.
If by nature you’re a loner or you’ve had a series of dysfunctional
relationships, also pay attention to the Knowledge area. Seek wisdom and
self-knowledge around relationship. Place a book on healthy relationships
or some other symbol of what you wish to create here.
May your relationships be joyful & blessed
