Feng Shui & Clutter Clearing: Feng Shui is centered around the belief that everything in our space is a reflection of who we are and that the things we keep around us influence our personal growth, success, and how people perceive us. Think for a moment about the symbolism of those unused, unwanted, and even broken things lurking in your closet or garage. What are they telling the world about you? It’s amazing how quickly people’s lives transform when they begin the process of clutter clearing. Lightening up will help you to implement more effective Feng Shui enhancements and clear the way for new opportunities to enter your life. You may not even consciously know that some of these opportunities are missing in your life until you begin to release things that are no longer loved or needed. I’ve even seen excess weight drop away when clutter is released. Here are 5 proven tips to start the clutter clearing process: 1. To begin, choose a small area. Usually it’s best to choose the one that bothers you the most. This could be your kitchen table, your front entrance, or the area around your bed. Where you begin is not important. Just get started. Once that area’s clean, declare it a clutter-free zone and move on to another area. Always complete an area before moving on. I suggest clearing a small area at a time. It could be one shelf, a drawer, or the corner of a room. This will assure that you have a tangible result at the end of your work time. 2. Set regular clutter clearing appointments with yourself. Do this daily, if possible. If you work for 25 or 30 minutes, you will achieve noticeable results during each session. However, even if you can only spare 5 or 10 minutes at a time, you will still make amazing progress. Establishing a regular routine will not only help you to maintain your progress, but once the clutter is gone, you will have established the habit of keeping your space clutter-free. If you’re a person who works best in large blocks time, that’s okay, too. However, commit yourself to maintaining whatever you’ve completed as clutter-free zone. There can be a tendency to slide back into old habits unless you have a regular routine for maintaining your space. 3. If possible, work with a buddy—someone that you can be accountable to. Making promises and being accountable to another person will keep you on track during those times you just don’t want to do anything. Choose someone with similar clutter clearing goals and a person you like and trust. Never choose someone who has been critical about your clutter issue. It’s useful to have a penalty when you don’t complete your accountability promise. For instance, you could pay your buddy a dollar or another set amount any time you fail to keep your agreement. 4. Put things away immediately. I like the 45 second rule: If it will take 45 seconds or less to file or put something away, do it right away. Once this becomes a habit, you’ll be see how effective it is. 5. Handle all mail and incoming papers as soon as you bring them into your home or office. If you can’t do this immediately, place them in an incoming box and process them as soon as possible. Never let them merge into other papers. Try these tips and notice how your experience of life transforms. Also, make it a game and enjoy the process. Have fun tossing! FENG SHUI IN-DEPTH SERIES You may attend any or all sessions.
