FENG SHUI NOTES - July 2010 Summer Greetings! As we progress into summer, I find myself drawn back into writing about my favorite area of the Bagua: Fame. The I Ching assigns Fame to summer season--specifically to the later part of June through July. Besides the qualities that the article below credits to this area, it’s also related to play and fun. In order to get the most from this time, indulge yourself in the silly side of summer. Remember all of those crazy things you loved to do as a kid. Go ahead and indulge yourself. This will prepare you for the more serious cycles later in the year. Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for questions. Next month's newsletter will be devoted to questions and answers. If you have a question you would like me to answer, please email me at SuzanneMetzger @earthlink.net. Use Feng Shui Question in the subject line. FAME: The Key To Creating An Amazing Future What does the Fame area of your home reveal? This area, in the center back third of your home, contains clues to how you’re known in the world, your self-image, and ultimately to the future that you’re creating for yourself. Much of what happens in your future will depend on your reputation and the way others view you now. If you fear being even a little famous--especially if you have a unique gift that you’re withholding from the world--building your self-esteem and your ability to receive attention is crucial to being known. Attention to your Fame area can help with this. Your home and your possessions are a mirror of who you are now. They reflect your current beliefs. Every item reflects a belief. (I know it’s scary!) These objects are constantly chattering to you and broadcasting your beliefs to your friends and your extended network. Your limiting beliefs are probably life-long, or at least several years old. You may not even be aware of them. You will continue to attract the same circumstances until you change your limiting beliefs. A powerful way to alter your life, is to make changes in your environment. I call this working from the outside in. The other way, of course, is to work on yourself from the inside out through meditation, therapy, etc. Both ways are important. However, my life changed dramatically when I discovered Feng Shui 23 years ago. This was after many years of meditating and working with other techniques. To get started, try rearranging your possessions and tossing out anything that doesn’t reflect who you want to be in the future. This may make you feel that you would really like to get rid of everything. If this wasn’t so radical, it could be a good idea. Having an empty space would allow you the freedom to fill it with only things that you really love and use. However, since you probably can’t, or won’t, turn your entire home into an empty canvas, start with the Fame area. Notice what’s there and your reaction to both the overall space and individual items there. Ask yourself if there is anything there that is not in alignment with who you really are and where you want to be in the future. If there’s anything that you don’t love or use, remove it. Also set aside items that you love, but that don’t fit into the space or forward the purpose of the room. Keep a list of anything that you do use, but really don’t like. Ask yourself if these things reflect who you want to be in the future. Then think about eventually replacing them. If you feel inclined, make a vision board and place it in Fame. (It could also go in Knowledge.) If it doesn’t fit with your décor, place it inside a closet or other place where you can easily view it. Also add artwork or other items to Fame that reflect your goals. Don’t forget to add a touch of the Fire element to Fame, if it’s not already there. Fire adds the spark needed to take action and move forward. This can be in the form of candles, lamps, triangular shaped items, or the color red.
