Feng Shui Enhancements

What’s happening when Feng Shui doesn’t seem to be working? When we incorporate a Feng Shui enhancements, we usually begin to notice changes within a short time--often within hours and at other times within a couple of weeks. Then there are those times when it appears that nothing is happening. We may have even forgotten that we’ve made an adjustment until we assess our lives months later and realize that what we intended really did take place. Often the magic of Feng Shui has been happening all along--however it’s been occurring outside of our conscious awareness and its effects have just needed time to manifest in the physical world. It appears that when anything in the universe is altered, everything else is affected and there is a subtle shift in everything else.

But, what about those times when our intended results do not manifest at all or we even achieve something opposite of the desired effect? Several possible reasons are:

1. We’ve implemented the wrong remedy. Usually no harm has been done and any resulting shifts are outside of our sphere of interest or attention and we are not consciously aware of them.

2. We’ve placed too many cures when one (the correct one, of course) would have been more effective.

3. The cure has been done to manipulate or even harm another person.

4. The cure needs time to “steep” and grow into its fullness. This often happens because the person performing the cure is not ready for a change either because they need to grow into it or because of karmic reasons.

5. There’s a protective factor at work and the changes are not in our best interest. Usually the reason will become clear later in life.

6. Other factors need to be examined in addition to Feng Shui. When the Chinese speak about the effectiveness of Feng Shui, they say that there are five factors which influence our success: the first level is fate or destiny; the second level is luck; the third level is Feng Shui; the fourth level is the accumulation of good deeds; and the fifth level is education, study, and hard work. They further go on to say that you must examine all of these factors when something goes wrong. They also believe that whenever you perform Feng Shui cures, you must also perform good deeds and that these good deeds accumulate.

7. The Theory of Multiple Causes. Whenever you plant a seed, something may occur to disrupt its germination and growth. An example in nature would be that you plant a seed that for some reason is unearthed. Then a bird may come along and pick up the seed and either eat it or deposit it in another location, causing the fate of the seed to be altered; or perhaps the seed didn’t receive enough moisture or nutrients to live. In either case, the intention of the seed was thwarted.

In Feng Shui we believe that successful outcomes are also related to our own personal growth. We emphasize regular study, meditation or devotional practices, and cultivation of our personal ch’i in order to understand and sense the correct enhancement and timing of each placement.

Feng Shui is not a static practice and requires constant attunement to the changing circumstances in our lives and the society we live in. Its body of knowledge has gradually developed over thousands of years in order to adapt to modern living. For instance, in modern times we recognize that the “ever changing bagua” with the front door position defining the mouth of ch’i is more reliable in determining the flow of energy than the compass direction. Also, architectural styles have changed dramatically reflecting our shift from a primarily agrarian lifestyle to a fast paced and linear thinking society. In the past the influence of airports, malls, and fast food restaurants never needed to be considered in Feng Shui. As our needs continue both personally and collectively to shift, Feng Shui will also continue to adapt.

Fortunate blessings. May your personal journey flow easily. Suzanne
