Feng Shui and The Garden (Part One)
Feng Shui Notes - June 2006

Many folks forget that their gardens, yards, patios, and decks are an extension of their home. Often when the home is lacking perfect Feng Shui, landscaping can compensate for some of the problems. In the next few newsletters, I’ll discuss various aspects of Feng Shui and the garden. This month we’ll begin by exploring the senses and their connection to Feng Shui. Feng Shui & The Senses The garden gives us an opportunity to incorporate all of our senses and at the same time enhance the Feng Shui of our property.

SIGHT – The sense of sight is immediate and the most predominant of the senses. Your eyes perceive color and light before any other sense is activated. Since color is absorbed through the skin, even people with visual challenges react to color.
Enhance specific areas of the Bagua* through the use of plants or décor in the color related to that area. If you feel depressed, try concentrating the colors of the rainbow in the area of the Bagua related to the source of your issue. For instance, place them in the Relationship area, if you believe your problem is related to relationship issues. If you have no idea why you feel depressed, place them in Knowledge. Of course, if you suffer from chronic depression, please seek medical assistance.

SMELL – Fragrant plants such as pine, rosemary, mint, jasmine, and lavender along the pathway to your home or near your entrance can have a profound effect on your mood and help to attract positive energy.
If you wish to create a certain kind experience related to an area of the Bagua, explore scents that bring forth the essence of that part of the Bagua. For instance, to enhance Children add a plant with a strong spicy scent.
Fragrance is a powerful catalyst for processing the past. After scent is absorbed through the nose, it travels to the part of the brain where memories and emotions are stored. Occasionally, a personally significant scent will trigger a long forgotten memory and evoke hidden emotions. Usually though, scents have a similar effect on most people.

SOUND – In Feng Shui, we often place chimes near the front door to invite more opportunities into our life and to give the front door, which is the main mouth of ch’i, more of a voice. If you do this, always choose one with a sound that you love. Never hang a chime that annoys you.
Other sounds that can uplift the ch’i of your property, include birds singing, flowing water, and a gentle breeze moving through trees.

TOUCH – Plan to have a mixture of textures in your garden. Even though you may not consciously touch each plant, your subconscious is registering every texture. Curious children often touch leaves and flowers as they explore the world. Walking barefoot over grass, flagstone, pebbles, or even cement is another way of exploring touch.

TASTE – Food is important to good Feng Shui as it signifies wealth. A grape vine cascading over your porch or fence, a pathway bordered with fragrant edible herbs, and abundant fruit trees, all signify abundance.
Enjoy your sensational garden!

FENG SHUI & VISION plus NATURAL EYESIGHT IMPROVEMENT TRAINING
Saturday, August 19th – 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

FENG SHUI FOR CLUTTERBUGS
6 Weeks – Tuesday Evenings Beginning
September 19th 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The purpose of this class is to empower you--no matter how much clutter you have--to permanently release it and get on with the things in life that really matter.

Results that past students report are clearing large amounts of clutter and continuing to maintain good habits after the class is complete. Many people have also lost weight and created other significant changes that they've wanted for a long time after they have taken this class.

We cover basic Feng Shui principals plus special information on the impact of various types of clutter in different areas of the Bagua and areas with different functions. This is information that I’ve gathered from advanced Feng Shui principals and other sources that, as far as I know, are not readily available from other classes or books.

We also look at emotional states related to the pattern of accumulating so much paper and other stuff--and there are processes to shift those patterns which include repatterning and visualizations.

The balance of the class is about establishing new habits related to organizing, maintaining, and storing your stuff, gentle goal setting, information about organizing tools, many “how to” tips, and lots of encouragement!

ENHANCE YOUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH FENG SHUI!
Saturday, October 28th – 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In this one-day workshop, we cover environmental factors that affect relationships and partnerships. This will include internal features such as door placement and shapes, placement of bathrooms and fireplaces, and the effects of external features, such as the shapes and colors of neighboring buildings and land-forms in the area, on our relationships. Both mundane and transcendental remedies for bringing balance into your relationships will be taught.
