The Many Faces Of Clutter Greetings Everyone! Time to simplify! Spring sends most of us into a flurry of activity: yard work, remodeling and maintenance projects, long hikes and other outdoor activities, and, of course, clearing clutter. If clutter is an issue, this is the perfect time to utilize the power of the Wood element (which is abundant now) and focus some of that energy into purging your home, yard, and office. Right now, I’m caught up in clutter clearing right along with many of you. My next Feng Shui For Clutterbugs class series is approaching and I’m beginning to think about releasing all those papers that I no longer need. As I look back over nine years of accumulated revisions to this class, I realize that I’ve saved multiple copies of almost every handout and outline that I’ve ever created. It’s starting to create a mess. DEFINITELY NOT GOOD FENG SHUI! Many of you, I’m sure, also have multiple copies of documents, notes from classes you took years ago, and other papers, books, and projects from past. Ask yourself if you really need them. If the answer is "yes," schedule time to work with them, and stick to it. Retaining them can keep you stuck in your past and prevent you from moving forward into the life you really want. Since 2008 is a One Year in numerology and the beginning of a new cycle, this is the perfect time to create space for yourself by dumping anything that no longer reflects who you are. This includes not only the paper clutter already mentioned, but also other types of clutter listed below: • Junk mail and magazine subscriptions. An excellent source of info about the impact of paper waste, for getting off junk mail lists, and recycling can be found at http://natspetmats.com/green_tips1.html • Certain people in your life could also be considered clutter. Obviously, this doesn’t mean you should give away your children or sever relations with other loved ones. The exception would be if you are being either physically or emotionally abused. In most cases, however, what is needed is to learn techniques for setting healthy boundaries. This is never easy, but once done, you will feel a sense of relief and spaciousness around you. (In Feng Shui boundary setting is influenced by the Metal and Earth elements.) • Too many activities can also be a form of clutter. If you find that you’re dreading certain activities, being with certain groups of people, or don’t have time to take care of your own well-being, this is usually a signal that it’s time to pare down your “to do” list. Any clutter clearing you engage in creates space for more positive energy to show up in your life. Benefits can include mental clarity, healthier relationships, new career opportunities, and increased income. Many people also shed unwanted pounds. If clutter is a problem, consider registering in the upcoming Feng Shui For Clutterbugs class series which begins on June 3rd. You will not only learn basic Feng Shui principals--especially as they relate to clutter, but you will also learn techniques to quickly clear and organize every part of your life. You will be repatterned and do exercises designed to help you release clutter and bring ease to the process.
