THE
METAL ELEMENT (Part Two)
Feng Shui Notes – November 2006
Last month
we discussed the Metal element’s connection to boundaries as they
pertain to creativity and being self-employed (If you wish to read it
go to newsletter archives). This month’s
focus is on changing boundaries in our relationships and balancing the
Metal element—especially as it pertains to Helpful People.
Late October to mid-December is the period, according to the
I Ching, when the Helpful People area of the Bagua (which is related to
Metal) is especially powerful. This makes it a good time to ask for assistance
to help you create positive boundaries.
One aspect of Metal is its ability to eliminate whatever is not working.
Metal can be out of balance either in your environment or for you personally.
Balancing Metal in your environment can assist if you have a personal
Metal imbalance.
Some examples of what can happen when Metal is out of balance are that
you feel a lot of conflict and uncertainty, you are overly critical or
overly sensitive, or that you have an abundance of clutter.
If there is a relationship or activity that you’d like
to either eliminate or change, this is a good time to initiate the process.
This is also an excellent time to begin healing an addictive behavior,
which could include anything from checking e-mail 20 times a day to something
more serious--such as beginning to work on a serious substance abuse problem.
Other examples of problems that could be addressed are severing a relationship
with an abusive person, working with a shopping addiction, and successfully
tossing clutter.
Some simple things to enhance the Helpful People area can include hanging
a picture of one or more “Helpful People”. They can be angels,
spiritual masters, and even animals—depending on your own frame
of reference.
Placing something metal in the area, especially silver, can also be a
powerful adjustment. If you have clutter in this area, this is a good
time to move it. It’s especially important to clear out any large
and difficult to move pieces of furniture that are no longer being used.
The Knowledge area in your home can also be important during this time.
If setting boundaries is especially difficult, put something
in Knowledge that symbolizes the limits you wish to set. This can be as
simple as hanging a picture of a fenced property, placing a book in the
area on building self-esteem or on how to leave an abusive relationship,
or displaying an affirmation tailored to your specific issue.
As
2007 approaches and you begin to set up your calendar, think about what
activities are no longer fulfilling or producing the results you desire.
See if they can be either modified or eliminated altogether. This
is a perfect time to renegotiate those agreements you’ve made in
the past to participate in activities that you now feel locked into and
are no longer satisfying.
Fortunate Blessings,
