MIRRORS (Part One)
By Suzanne Metzger

A Personal Note from Suzanne,

Fall is quickly approaching. We actually had snow on Pikes Peak a couple of weeks ago, the acorns are falling, and the morning air already has the crisp scent of Autumn.

As we move into September, the Children’s area of the Bagua gains prominence. This year especially seems to signal that it is time for reflection and change. It’s definitely showing up on the political front and, personally, I’m beginning to notice that people are considering major transitions. Some want to move or change jobs, others want to lose weight or change their appearance in some way, and many folks are mulling over new, never considered before, possibilities for their lives. Even possibilities that include major risk. Both groups and individuals seem to be engaged in more “out of the box” thinking.

This kind of thinking engages both the creativity and Metal aspects of the Children’s area. You can take advantage of this energy even if you’re not consciously thinking about making changes.

If you are “in transition” or feel a shift coming on, consider strengthening your boundaries (an aspect of balanced Metal). Doing so will force you to focus on what’s most important in your life. Metal also has to do with simplification and setting up routines that will help you to hold your focus.

This is a great time to clean out files and get rid of clothing you no longer wear. These actions will help you to gain clarity and move easily into whatever’s next for you.

Guess what? I’m clearing and cleaning right along with you! I love the clarity that I know will follow.

Mirrors (Part One)

Synchronicity! When it happens, I feel so connected and in the flow. It’s as if the universe is aligned with my intentions and is speaking directly to me.

Last Wednesday evening on my way to a new meeting location for my dance group, I experienced just that. As I drove there, I began to think that I would write about mirrors this month.

To my surprise, our new exquisite space had two glaring Feng Shui problems that had been artfully remedied with mirrors. The most obvious and difficult problem was that the dance floor had two supporting columns blocking the flow of chi. However, I’m delighted to say that they were remedied with a perfect Feng Shui cure. Either intuitively or knowingly they were studded from top to bottom on all four sides with several small randomly placed decorative mirrors.

The ideal, of course, would have been to have full-length mirrors installed from ceiling to floor on all four sides of each pillar; but this is costly and in this case wouldn’t have been safe, if a dancer careened into one.

Mirrors are one of the nine basic cures in Feng Shui used to solve both interior and exterior problems. In this case, they were used to adjust and improve the flow of chi.

Here are some other uses for mirrors:

• To resolve unbalanced shapes – The other problem in this space was a diagonal wall in the front. A large mirror was placed here either intuitively or by someone who knew a little about Feng Shui to balance the missing area.

• To create more depth – Many homes and offices have a blocking wall as you enter. In order to create depth, placing a mirror on that wall is a common cure for softening the blow and allowing the chi to continue moving.

• To deflect negative outside influences – A Bagua mirror can be placed outside and above your front door. This keeps positive energy inside and prevents negative energy from entering your home.

Either a traditional Chinese Bagua mirror (with I Ching symbols surrounding the actual mirror) or a small more inconspicuous plain beveled eight-sided mirror can be used.

It should always be hung outside and above your front door unless you’ve been advised otherwise by a Feng Shui expert.

Next month I’ll continue writing about mirrors. In the meantime . . .

May your reflections & transition into Fall,
abundantly bless you!

Suzanne
