SPRING, CRYSTALS, AND THE FAMILY AREA
By Suzanne Metzger

Spring Greetings!
I have to laugh as I write this. Springtime in Colorado is a mixed bag. This morning I drove to the airport through freezing blowing snow while the day before it was a balmy 60 degrees. When I land in Los Angeles in a couple of hours, it will be in the 70s.

The I Ching assigns early springtime to the Family area of the Bagua. Both are related to renewal and birth. The seemingly opposite energies of changeable weather, including wet, heavy snow, powerful thunderstorms, and gentle rains, awaken earthbound seeds from their long winter slumber. They can also symbolically awaken our own sleeping potential, if we're in tune with the season.

On lucky days, we see rainbows of sparking colored light through droplets of rain suspended in the atmosphere. These rainbows spawn auspicious feelings and an aura of well-being for most of us. Feng Shui crystals also reflect light and often generate similar feelings of well-being as the rainbow.

The Family area also represents the strength of a strong father figure—one who embodies the commanding presence of a clap of thunder along with the gentle effects of the cleansing rains that follow.

Last month’s article, The Feng Shui Crystal, goes into some of the uses of round, multifaceted crystals and why they should be leaded. We continue this month with Colored Crystals.

COLORED CRYSTALS
The advantage of using a colored prism is that it not only provides the qualities of lead and light, where needed, but it also can be used for a color adjustment.

Over past 20 years that I’ve been involved in Feng Shui, Swarovski, the top manufacturer of Austrian leaded crystals, has added more colors to their line. In the past year, even black has become available.*

I often recommend using colored crystals when the addition of color would strengthen an area of the Bagua or help to presence or balance one of the five elements.

Following are a few examples of how they can be used:

• The addition a SAPPHIRE crystal in the Knowledge area can enhance self-cultivation, spiritual growth, and energize intellectual pursuits.

GREEN in Family helps connect you to your family of origin, your family of choice, and the community you live in. It also relates to new beginnings and certain types of health issues.
All shades of green work, but peridot, which became available a couple of years ago, is especially effective here.

• A soft PINK crystal, the color related to the Relationship area, helps to balance and energize marriage and other close relationships.

• A RED crystal in Fame enhances your reputation and helps you to be known in the world. I also often recommend using a small red prism in the Relationship area, especially if more passion is need in your primary relationship.

AMBER in either the energetic or actual center of a building assists in bringing balance to the entire space and can be especially effective if health challenges are present.

PURPLE is the main color associated with the Wealth area and also represents spirituality. There are two shades available now. The dark violet crystal adds a strong focused quality, whereas the lighter lavender offers more of a gentle spiritual essence. It’s close enough in shade to pink, that many folks also use it in Relationship.

* Please note: I do offer reasonably priced Swarovski crystals for sale to past and present consultation clients and class students.

May your spring be filled with color & light!
