Your Door & Scheduling Your Time

What Do They Have In Common?

The time between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice is related to the Metal element in Feng Shui, making this the natural time to strengthen and improve boundaries in all areas of life.

Metal is especially strong during the first half of October--the time assigned by the I Ching to Children’s area of the bagua.* This area relates not only to children, but also to creativity and self-expression. To reach full creative potential, successful artists and writers usually are most productive when they impose boundaries on themselves--like having a defined work schedule and limiting interruptions during their productive times. All of us, regardless of whether we work in a creative field or not, can use this window of time to define the boundaries that need strengthening and to rectify violations relating to both our personal boundaries and our physical space.

Common examples of where we allow personal boundaries to be violated would be handling things for adult children that they should be taking care of themselves; storing others’ belongings in your garage, basement, or elsewhere on your property; or assuming additional responsibilities in groups you volunteer for while others sit on the sidelines. Another type of personal invasion might be routinely passing up doing what you want and ignoring your own goals while supporting others. (I’m not speaking of the normal give and take in healthy relationships or emergency situations.)

This is a particularly good time to give notice to anyone who you’ve been storing things for--especially if it’s been for an unreasonable length of time. Holding “junk” for others has been creating stagnant energy for you. Moving their things out will help lighten up your energy and assist you in decreasing your own clutter. In fact, this entire period of time is great for clearing clutter. It is also the perfect time for setting up routines, fine-tuning your schedule, taking a time management course to sharpen your scheduling skills, and making important commitments to yourself. This is because the Metal element is about clearing out whatever’s no longer important.

Fengshuiwise, this is an excellent time to fix any areas in need of repair that separate your private space from the outer world. This includes fixing gates, fences, windows, doors, and even adding a coat of exterior paint, wherever needed.

With the shortening days of autumn, less sunlight, and the earth’s colors softening to orange and golden yellow with touches of red, think about adding more of these colors to your indoor environment to strengthen the Metal energy in your home. This will assist you in defining boundaries and initiating any changes you desire.

Finally, on a personal level, in addition to being a time to free ourselves of any unhealthy attachments to people, places, and material possessions that no longer serve us, it’s also a perfect time to release the losses and the grief we’ve accumulated.**

May your boundaries be strong & your releases come easily,
Suzanne
